MAS (Movement Art Space) is a dance & fitness studio located in Glassell Park of Los Angeles, CA. MAS is a community of all ages and levels that gather to train, learn healthier habits, develop their artistic voice, inspire each other, and be celebrated as the wonderful works in progress we all are. We are in the Verdugo Plaza next to Lemon Poppy Kitchen with plenty of free parking. Come join the MAS fun!
Just a reminder we are closed Saturday, April 22nd-Sunday, April 23rd while we attend Hot Raqs Belly Dance Festival. Yesterday our Qabila Folkdance Company performed at Anaheed's Belly Dance Swap Meet, a local event that gathers various member of the bellydance community for a huge sale and on-going performances throughout the day. Kristine Adams has been traveling the globe sharing American Tribal Style, a form of group bellydance improvisation, in every city, town, and village. This past Sunday, January 8th MAS filled with aspiring and enthusiastic Middle Eastern folk dancers all auditioning to join the Qabila Folkdance Company. Qabila is dedicated to sharing the diverse folk dances from around the Arab World through performances and educational outreach. Dancers learned technique & choreography representing Lebanese Debke, Saudi Khalleegy, Moroccan Shikhat, Cairo Awalim, Binat Mazin Ghawazee, and Egyptian Reda stylization to demonstrate a vastness that is Arabic folk dance. And after 3 hours of dancing & sweaty fun, three beautiful dancers were asked to join. Please welcome to the Qabila family~ Deborah, Chloe & Alice!!! The Lumina Bellydance Co is having a rare audition!!! Thursday, January 5th, 2017, 8:45pm-10:30pm at Movement Art Space (3326 Verdugo Road, Los Angeles, CA 90065)
Looking for strong Raqs Sharqi bellydancers with solid technique, dynamic stage presence, professional look & etiquette, and team focus. No divas need apply. Just hard work and sweaty fun. Must be able to attend weekly rehearsals on Thursdays 9:00-10:30pm. Costumes are provided, although dancers are responsible for shoes, jewelry, and small personal items. The Lumina Bellydance Company does a wide range of performances from theatre to club to private events. Paid work is evenly distributed among performers, although it should be noted not all shows are paid. MAS proudly presents ~Explorations in Body Image & Self Value with Heather Shoopman! Saturdays 4:00-6:00pm. January 7th-28th, 2017. This special & empowering series will dive into human mythology and discover the stories of the body. Through experimental movement, drawing and witnessing we will interpret the collective story surrounding body image. This therapeutic approach to creating a dance goes back to ancient times of tribal dances for community healing. Being creative with life’s narrative is quite transformative for both participants and audience. Liberate yourself! Class will present their work at LA Raqs "Women's History" Hafla Friday, January 27th, 2017 (performance optional). $125 pre-reg for entire 4 class series/ $150 at the door space permitting
