The first LA Raqs hafla for 2016 was a great success in bringing together different artists paying tribute to various dance pioneers from history. The Torso Dance Collective brought American Tribal Style in homage to Fat Chance Belly Dance and it's creator Carolena Nericcio.
The Los Angeles Bellydance Improv Academy danced through the history of ITS Hot Pot style including costumes from over the past years some directly from Amy Sigil's collection.
Stefanie Mari, co-director of LA Raqs, performed a stunning piece inspired by the mother of modern dance, Martha Graham.

Galadriel took on Nijinsky's Ballet of the Faun.
The Lumina Dance Company, choreographed by Aubre Hill, was inspired by the Golden Age of Egyptian Film.

Roxanne Shelby brought her newly released Fez documentary and then shared a joyful Fifi Abdou piece.
The Qabila Folkdance Company finished out the show with a tribute to the infamous Reda Troupe (choreography by Aubre Hill. performance by Aubre Hill, Belen Garibaldi, May Fearnley, Shana Meurs, Casey Watts, Rita Blaik, Stefanie Mari, and Yuliya Lunessia).
